Kim Zoeller

Kim Zoeller

PhD candidate

James Cook University

Kim is a PhD student exploring cultural ecosystem services and benefits that are provided at different levels of ecological organisation, under the supervision of Graeme Cumming, Georgina Gurney and Nadine Marshall. Growing up in Cape Town, South Africa – one of the most biodiverse regions of the world – Kim had an early interest in understanding ecosystem dynamics. This interest led her to pursue a BSc in Biodiversity and Ecology & Evolution (2011), a BSc (Honours) in Botany (2012) and an MSc in Botany (2014) at the University of Cape Town. The focus of her MSc was on the pollination and breeding systems of four geoflorous Protea species. Following her studies, she worked in the private sector as a Climate Change and Environmental Consultant before returning to research as a coordinator for a project that investigated the concept of cultural ecosystem services. This project forms the foundation of her PhD, and she will continue to address questions relating to our understanding of cultural ecosystem services during her PhD research.
