From 2005 to 2022, the main node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies was headquartered at James Cook University in Townsville, Queensland (Australia)
After 17 years of leadership in coral reef science, it is time for us to wrap up operations. Our graduates, researchers and alumni will continue our mission to generate knowledge to benefit the sustainable use and management of coral reefs worldwide.

Yesterday we bid farewell to Distinguished Professor Terry Hughes, who retired after a remarkable career. Prof. Hughes joined @jamescookuniversity in 1990, and for 15 years he was the Director of @coral.coe.

Under his leadership, the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies emerged as the leading research hub for coral reef science. During Prof. Hughes' tenure as our Centre's Director, more than 500 PhD students have successfully graduated and he has contributed to build an extensive network of coral reef scientists around the globe.
.
We have no doubt that Prof. Hughes will continue to use his scientific expertise to help inform the management of coral reefs and we wish him well in his retirement. We'll miss you Terry!
