Nery Contti Neto

PhD candidate

University of Western Australia

Born and raised in Vitoria, an island in southeast Brazil, Nery has always kept contact with the sea. During his BSc in Oceanography (Honours) in the same city, he was able to complete internships on two other islands: Hawaii and Trindade e Martin Vaz working with sea turtles. He then moved to Sao Paulo to earn his MSc degree, studying longshore beach currents, at the same time completing a specialised study in tides and sea-level measurements, which gave him the opportunity to work in a private company after two years, in Florianopolis (southern Brazil). Getting back to an island life, he started his working career, especially dealing with Meteo-Oceanography data analysis. After 5 years working for private companies and as a consultant, he then decided to pursue his PhD degree at UWA. The main objective of his studies is the current and wave interaction within Coral reefs under the supervision of Dr. Ryan Lowe.
