I am an ecologist and social scientist from Montreal, Canada. My PhD research is about how living in cities changes how we perceive, use, and benefit from nature. Now that more than half for the world’s population lives in cities, it is important to understand how it affects the many benefits that we obtain from nature. I conducted my fieldwork in the Solomon Islands, which is urbanizing rapidly. I interviewed urban and rural dwellers to compare their perceptions of ecosystem services. I further explore how these services contribute to human wellbeing. I also look at how availability and access issues limit the benefits that people obtain from nature. I am advised by Graeme Cumming and Georgina Gurney.
