James completed his PhD in marine biology at James Cook University in November 2015, under the supervision of Prof. David Bellwood, he now works directly for the Centre Director, Prof. Terry Hughes. In this capacity he has been co-ordinating the National Coral Bleaching Taskforce since its inception in late 2015. This has involved collection and analysis of research data from multiple research institutions around Australia, as well as several weeks at sea and in aircraft surveying the 2016 mass coral bleaching event. James also works as a freelance writer in Australia, specialising in science communication.
