Maria Eleanor Aurellado

Maria Eleanor Aurellado

PhD graduate

University of Queensland

Eleanor is from Manila, Philippines where her love for the sea began at an early age.  Her favourite childhood memories include swimming with her siblings at the beach during school breaks.  She decided to become a marine biologist after her father took her snorkelling in coral reefs for the first time.  After getting her BSc in Zoology at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) in 2003, she became a research assistant at the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute on a project that examined the movement of reef fishes across marine reserve boundaries.  She completed her MSc degree in Marine Biology at Florida Institute of Technology, USA in 2005 as a Fulbright scholar.  She is currently a PhD student at the University of Queensland under the supervision of Prof. Peter Mumby and Dr. Alastair Harborne and is funded by the Australian Awards. Her research examines how predation risk affects the foraging behaviour and microhabitat use of parrotfish.
