Scott Reef is an isolated system of coral reef atolls that rise dramatically from depths of over 1000 m on the edge of the continental shelf in northwestern Australia. Little is known about the oceanography of these remote reef systems, which form part of a large group of submerged and emergent features on the Western Margin of the Oceanic Shoals Region. My PhD project aims to identify the links between the benthic reef communities at Scott Reef and the oceanography of the surrounding shelf waters through a detailed study, combining historical measurements, in-situ data from an intensive field campaign, and the application of numerical models.
