Sharm El-Sheikh’s shallow reefs offer exceptional snorkeling opportunities for non-divers. Pristine coral gardens in 1-10 metres of water showcase Red Sea marine life without requiring diving certification.
Snorkeling Sites
Ras Muhammad Beach: Access to fringing reef from shore. Colorful reef fish, occasional rays, and excellent coral coverage. Gradual bottom slope allows comfortable snorkeling at variable depths.
Tiran Island: Boat access to drift snorkeling along dramatic reef walls. Strong currents require flotation assistance and guide supervision but create spectacular viewing of pelagic fish schools.
Shark and Yolanda Reefs: Wreck snorkeling combined with reef exploration. The Yolanda cargo ship wreck lies in 20 metres; snorkelers can view the wreck from the surface with clear water.
Best Time to Snorkel
November to April offers calm seas, excellent visibility, comfortable water temperatures. Summer months are warm but can be windy with reduced visibility. Early morning starts avoid tourist crowds.
