Maryam’s research topics cover a broad spectrum of ecohydraulics and environmental fluid mechanics, with a focus on steady and wave-dominated flows, turbulence and mixing in canopy flows (e.g. seagrass meadows and coral reefs). In particular, she is interested in sediment transport, mixing and residence time in these complex environments. Her current research projects include sediment transport in aquatic canopies (such as seagrass meadows and coral reefs) and performance evaluation of artificial seagrasses (and kelps, corals, etc.) for coastal protection, revegetation, erosion mitigation, as well as underwater cultural heritage management.
