Gundula Winter

Gundula Winter

PhD candidate

University of Western Australia

Location: The University of Western Australia

Education: MSc (cum laude)

Gundula’s PhD research examined the physical wave transformation across fringing reefs and the exchange of water between reefs and the open ocean. Under the supervision of Prof Ryan Lowe she used field and numerical experiments to study the physical processes important for the transport of nutrients, larvae and pollutants as well as for shoreline erosion. Her current research interest aims to use the enhanced understanding of the physical environment to improve coastal management in a changing climate.

Previous to her PhD research, Gundula worked as a researcher and consultant on real-time water quality forecasts as well as coastal risk reduction. She holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from TU Dresden (Germany) and a MSc in Coastal Engineering from TU Delft (The Netherlands).
