Currently Veronica is a US National Park Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow studying shallow and mesophotic coral reefs in the National Park of American Sāmoa with the lab of A/Prof Daniel Barshis at Old Dominion University (USA). Her research investigates coral acclimatization to local environmental conditions. She uses field-based experiments and biogeochemical techniques to study how corals acclimate to shallow versus deep reef environments, with a focus on lower-light mesophotic coral ecosystems. Veronica’s current work is focused on understanding the impacts of ocean warming on coral recovery following coral bleaching.

Veronica is also an adjunct associate research fellow in the Coral Reef Ecosystems Laboratory at the University of Queensland (Australia), where she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Ph.D. candidate in the lab of Prof Ove Hoegh-Guldberg and A/Prof Sophie Dove at UQ. Veronica completed her Ph.D. at UQ studying the trophic ecology of shallow and deep reef-building corals. As an XL Catlin Seaview Survey Ocean Scholar, she was involved in surveying shallow and deep coral reefs across the Coral Triangle and central Indian Ocean.
