- Applied issues in ecology and conservation biology
I am a postdoctoral fellow in Program 6 (Conservation Planning for a Sustainable Future) working with Professor Bob Pressey and Professor Helene Marsh. My research is on developing the appropriate tools to inform systematic conservation planning in the Sea Country of Torres Strait. Specifically, my research is focussed on: (1) the design of culturally-appropriate protocols for information sharing; (2) bringing together Traditional Knowledge and Western Science information in a way that supports a systematic approach to the design of marine strategies in Torres Strait; and (3) developing a new operational framework for conservation planning in the Sea Country of Indigenous Australians. I work closely with multiple State and Federal government agencies including the Torres Strait Regional Authority, Fisheries Queensland, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management and the Australian Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.
