Crown of Thorns Starfish eating a coral colony.


Large bump head parrot fish are a reasonably common sight in this area.


Corals have been used as a building material in a few places.


Houses were where the corals had been used most,


but they had been used in a number of other structures as well.


Poor water quality has been linked to increases numbers of the Crown of Thorns Starfish, and could be a major problem in the region.


Blast fishing destroys patches of reef and turns them to rubble like this.


Where as Crown of Thorns Starfish eat the flesh and leave the skeletons whole.


Some of the reefs in the region are still in excellent condition.
