Research Fellowship: Modelling of coupled social-ecological systems

Job Level(s):  Research Academic Level B, Research Academic Level C
Location:  Townsville
Closing Date:  12 January 2007
Reference:  6219

Position Statement

This position is jointly funded by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies (James Cook University), the Resilience Alliance, and The Australian Environmental Decision Analysis Centre (University of Queensland).  The appointee will carry out research to assess the potential for networks of protected areas to enhance the resilience of coupled social-ecological systems at the landscape-seascape scale.  The work is expected to consist principally of mathematical modelling that couples economic/social dynamics with ecological dynamics, but the candidate will be expected to seek to apply the models developed to empirical case studies (e.g., the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, terrestrial protected area systems, etc.).  The candidate should have a strong background in mathematical modelling, and be familiar with research problems in economics, ecology, or a related discipline.
