Position Statement
Following completion of the preliminary establishment phase with the assistance of a temporary secondment, the Centre of Excellence is now seeking to make a substantive appointment to the position of Chief Operations Officer (COO) to manage the Centre’s operations, including planning, policy, finance, human and physical resources and administration. In association with the Centre Director, the COO will provide leadership in positioning the Centre and readying its capability for the future and will have a key role in promoting the Centre nationally and internationally. The COO will have primary responsibility for the stimulation and management of the business and financial development of the Centre. The COO will also have a strong role in liaising with centre partners, funding organisations, external groups and institutions to further the Centre’s objectives.
Key Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, management or equivalent;
- Extensive senior management experience and success in a complex organisation in strategic planning, finance, human resources, business process engineering, change management and policy development;
- Experience in working with national and international research organisations;
- Ability to lead business development;
- Excellent analytical and negotiation skills;
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
- Enthusiasm, drive and creativity.
Desirable Selection Criteria
- Postgraduate qualifications;
- Knowledge of policy and issues in the Higher Education Sector, particularly with respect to research;
- Marketing, promotion and media skills.

Employment Type
Appointment will be full-time for a fixed term (external funding) until 31st December 2010 subject to a probationary period.
