Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: Integrated Planning for Coastal Catchment and nearshore marine waters

Position Statement
The appointee will work with partner organisations to develop an explicit conceptual and technical framework for integrated coastal planning applicable to north Queensland, the Asia-Pacific region, and more generally. Development of the framework is expected to identify gaps in data and modelling capabilities that become research priorities for this and other projects. At an early stage, the appointee will participate in and help to organise a workshop on integrated coastal planning for which funding is available. We seek applicants with strong modelling or analytical skills and an interest in any scientific area relevant to integrated coastal planning and decision-support systems. These include geographic information systems, catchment modelling, conservation planning software, ecosystem-based management of coastal and marine areas, multi-criteria analysis, implementation of conservation action, and institutional arrangements for effective planning.
Duties and Accountabilities
The appointee will be required to:
- Conduct research independently and as part of a team which contributes to the achievement of the aims of the ARC Centre of Excellence, particularly the research program for Conservation Science and Planning;
- Contribute to improving integrated planning for coastal catchments and nearshore marine waters;
- Work independently and collaborate with Centre staff to apply skills to research problems in conservation planning for marine, freshwater and terrestrial systems;
- Produce publications from research in high-quality journals;
- Co-supervise graduate students, if appropriate.

- PhD in related discipline
- Exceptional publications record for stage of career
- Strong modelling or analytical skills
- Established interest in any scientific area relevant to integrated coastal planning;
- Established links (national and international) with appropriate research organisations and personnel;
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Selection Criteria
- Experience with integrated coastal planning;
- Experience with institutional arrangements for effective conservation planning;
- Experience with use or development of decision-support tools for conservation planning or environmental management.

Employment Type
Appointments will be full-time for a fixed term (research only) of up to three years subject to a probationary period.
Salary
$64407 to $76210 per annum
$57168 to $61259 per annum
depending on qualifications and experience
